The Y8 aircraft is currently the largest multi-purpose, medium-range, and medium-size transport aircraft manufactured in China. (The overall length 34.4 meters, the wing span 38 meters, the maximum range 5615km, the maximum level-speed 662km/h, cruising speed 550km/h, the maximum take off weight 61 tons, the maximum load 20 tons, payload 16 tons.)

The structure of Y8 aircraft is an all-metal semi-monocoque type with cantilever high gull wing. The retractable landing gears are in a tricycle arrangement; the main landing gears are a twin-tandem type with low-pressure tires and disc brake mechanisms. Four turboprop engines (WJ-6) are installed on Y8 aircraft; the maximum output of each engine is 4250 eshp driving four constant-speed and variable pitch propellers (J17G13).

With various modern instruments, communication and navigation equipment, the flight safety of Y8 aircraft is ensured day and night. Y8 aircraft can make safe takeoff and landing on unprepared fields of grass, snow, and gravel.

Y8 aircraft can be modified and used for many task such as air-transport or airdrop and parachute.
